What is Statistical Inference?

At its core, statistical inference is the process of using data from a sample to make conclusions about a larger population. Because we rarely have access to all the data in a population (e.g., measuring every human’s height), we rely on samples and statistical methods to estimate or test hypotheses about the population.

Statistical inference answers two primary questions:
